- A classic two-flap-pocket work shirt built with Samurai Jeans’ newly developed “Kanoko Ai-Madara” fabric. Drawing inspiration from kanoko, the spotted appearance of a young deer, and madara, meaning a mottled or marbled pattern, the fabric recreates this naturally irregular character through colour, texture and weaving techniques.
The distinctive “Ai-Madara” marbled appearance is created with natural indigo and indigo-dyed yarns in the warp, combined with brown-dyed yarns in the weft, using sashiko weaving techniques throughout the fabric. The indigo yarns are positioned in the raised sashiko sections, where abrasion and fading occur more easily, allowing the irregular spotted pattern to become more visible. At the same time, the unique construction gives the fabric a firm, substantial texture and the durability required for long-term wear.
Designed as a classic work shirt, it features durable triple-stitched Flat-Felled Seam construction throughout. Combining traditional workwear construction with Samurai Jeans’ development of an original textile, the shirt goes beyond simple workwear and reflects the craftsmanship, textile knowledge and attention to detail that define Japanese manufacturing.

Shoulder Width
- Measure straight across from shoulder seam to shoulder seam on the back.
Chest Width
- Measure straight across the front of the garment, from armpit to armpit. For size chart reference, chest measurement is shown as full circumference ( flat measurement x 2 ).
Waist Width
- Measure across the narrowest part of the shirt — from seam to seam — between the chest and the hem.
Hem Width
- Measure straight across the bottom edge of the shirt, from one side seam to the other — just above the curved hem.
Sleeve Length (Set-In)
- Measure from the top of the shoulder seam straight to the end of the cuff.
Sleeve Length (Raglan)
- Measure from seam of collar all the way down to the end of the cuff.
Armhole
- Measure vertically from the shoulder seam down to the bottom of the armhole seam.
Body Length
- Measure from the center of the base of the collar (just below the collar band) straight down to the bottom hem.
