- Inspired by the WWII-era Type 1 denim jacket, this model combines a classic early workwear design with Samurai Jeans’ newly developed GL3 selvedge denim.
Built from a 15.8oz selvedge denim, slowly woven on a vintage Toyota GL3 shuttle loom, the fabric has a dense structure, dry hand and strong vertical texture. By using Samurai Cotton in the weft, it gains additional weight together with a naturally neppy and slubby texture, while offering strong potential for sharp vertical fading with wear.
Iron laurel buttons, brass Samurai Co. rivets and a leather patch based on early Samurai designs keep the jacket closely connected to the brand’s heritage. All stitching is carried out with cotton thread, with careful attention given to thread count, colour and stitch pitch. At the back, an iron needle buckle decorated with a chrysanthemum pattern adds a subtle Japanese touch to the classic Type 1 construction.
