- A special release from Pure Blue Japan, built in the classic Type 2 jacket style around one of the brand’s most distinctive fabrics — a custom 12oz sashiko woven entirely from naturally indigo-dyed yarn. While traditional sashiko is known for its firm, substantial character, PBJ has taken a different approach here, creating a softer and more breathable sashiko that retains the depth and texture of the original fabric while offering a noticeably easier feel in everyday wear.
Both the warp and weft yarns are hank-dyed by hand with natural indigo in Tokushima, one of Japan’s most renowned regions for traditional indigo dyeing. The yarn is repeatedly dyed and oxidised to gradually build greater depth of colour, with the process also influenced by changes in temperature, weather and humidity. The finished yarn is then slowly woven on old shuttle looms into a 12oz selvedge sashiko, combining the rich depth of natural indigo with the distinctive texture of sashiko.
Natural indigo is also valued for the way its colour evolves. Rather than developing a high-contrast fade, the blue gradually softens and develops a delicate range of tones, giving the sashiko greater depth and individuality over time.

Shoulder Width
- Measure straight across from shoulder seam to shoulder seam on the back.
Chest Width
- Measure straight across the front of the garment, from armpit to armpit.For size chart reference, chest measurement is shown as full circumference ( flat measurement x 2 ).
Waist Width
- Measure across the narrowest part of the shirt — from seam to seam — between the chest and the hem.
Hem Width
- Measure straight across the bottom edge of the shirt, from one side seam to the other — just above the curved hem.
Sleeve Length (Set-In)
- Measure from the top of the shoulder seam straight to the end of the cuff.
Sleeve Length (Raglan)
- Measure from seam of collar all the way down to the end of the cuff.
Armhole
- Measure vertically from the shoulder seam down to the bottom of the armhole seam.
Body Length
- Measure from the center of the base of the collar (just below the collar band) straight down to the bottom hem.
