- Drawing inspiration from traditional Japanese boro textiles dating back to the Edo period, this shirt features PBJ's signature Indigo Yarn-Dyed Jacquard Patchwork fabric. At first glance, the fabric appears in a deep, dark indigo tone, but as it gradually fades with wear and washing, it develops an appearance reminiscent of a vintage boro shirt.
The fabric is woven from indigo-dyed yarns using multiple jacquard patterns arranged in a patchwork-inspired layout. The varying weave structures create subtle differences in texture and light reflection throughout the fabric.
Producing an indigo jacquard fabric is a particularly challenging process, as the weaving must be carried out with great care to prevent the indigo-dyed yarns from transferring color to other sections. It requires additional time, precision, and a high level of craftsmanship.
As the indigo yarns gradually fade with wear and washing, the contrast between the different jacquard sections becomes increasingly pronounced. Areas of varying texture and weave density age at different rates, allowing the patchwork design to emerge more clearly over time, making this one of the most iconic and enduring shirts in the Pure Blue Japan lineup.
