- Built around the simple form of a 1930s to 1940s car coat, this piece has been rebuilt by Hideo Motoike with a cleaner and more balanced shape. The body and sleeves are slightly slimmer than the original vintage style, giving the coat a strong presence without feeling overly bulky.
Built from European horsehide, fully vegetable-tanned, dyed and fat-liquored by the renowned Maryam tannery in Italy. Known as “Whisky Horse Crust”, the leather is further fat-liquored with natural cow tallow and drum-milled in Japan, bringing out its natural grain while adding elasticity and a supple yet firm feel. It is then finished in black using dye and casein over the brown base, creating a deep lustre that will gradually reveal a rich teacore character with time.
The clean front is finished with flapped single-welt pockets, an inner chest pocket and original 925 sterling silver cat-eye buttons made by Motoike. Cotton flannel lining adds warmth, while the branded leather patch beneath the collar provides a quiet finishing detail. Simple at first glance, it is a coat built to grow more personal through many years of wear.
