- Based on a pair of 1940s vintage engineer boots from Hideo Motoike’s personal collection, the Lot.1004 brings the rugged character of the original into a cleaner Dress Engineer shape. The narrow last and unstructured toe create a lower and more refined profile, setting it apart from the heavier look usually associated with engineer boots.
The upper is made from full vegetable-tanned Italian horsebutt leather from Maryam tannery. Known for its dense fibre structure, the leather retains natural grain, scars and tiger-stripe markings, giving every pair a slightly different appearance. Moto starts with undyed crust leather and hand-dyes each pair individually, allowing the colour to slowly fade and reveal an uneven brown tea-core with time.
Finished with solid brass buckles, a shaped leather insole and an Italian oak-bark-tanned bends leather sole, the boots are built using Goodyear welt construction with separate Vibram rubber pieces at the forefoot and heel. The specially developed last places the weight around the arch, while the leather slowly softens and settles around the foot, creating a tough but refined pair made to be enjoyed for many years.

- Work the product lightly into the surface with a cloth, allowing it to absorb gradually without over-saturating.
- Horsebutt leather develops character over time, with creasing and surface marks forming naturally.
- Light scratches can often be reduced by brushing or gently rubbing the area.
- Deeper marks may remain as part of the leather’s ageing, but can be softened slightly with a small amount of cream.
- Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or heat, which can dry the leather and cause hardening.
- Store in a cool, well-ventilated space, away from humidity.
- Use shoe trees to maintain shape and help absorb internal moisture.
