- The “Birner” takes its name from the image of a mechanic and racer who drove a Ford four-cylinder hot rod in dry lake speed races. Inspired by 1930s to 1940s work clothing, the shirt keeps the simple and functional character of mechanic wear from the period.
Built from Freewheelers’ original 8.5oz indigo denim, it has a firm and durable feel with a well-balanced weight that can be worn throughout the year. The pronounced surface texture will develop strong vertical fading, giving the shirt a richer character over time.
A small wide-spread collar with a short chin strap is paired with two low-set chest pockets. The right pocket has a buttoned flap, while the left uses a two-way design that can be accessed from the top or side. Finished with black-painted iron buttons, a gently curved hem and a longer body length, this classic mechanic shirt has been rebuilt through Freewheelers’ modern approach and made to be enjoyed for years.
