- Created for Deluxeware’s 20th anniversary project, the design brings together two very different fabrics — denim and heavy flannel. Woven on denim shuttle looms, the fabric is designed to develop the fading and ageing of denim while retaining the softer feel and warmth associated with a heavy flannel shirt.
The 100% cotton fabric is woven in Ibara, Okayama, with indigo rope-dyed yarn used for the warp. By adjusting the density of the weft and brushing the reverse side, the fabric achieves a softer hand and warmer feel without losing the distinctive character of denim.
Details include a concealed front placket with metal tack buttons, a chin strap and washable cowhide leather reinforcement beneath the collar. The entire sewing process is completed at Deluxeware’s in-house factory, Oldact, in Akita, using vintage 1960s Union Special triple-needle machinery. From the specially developed fabric to the traditional sewing process, every element comes together to make this anniversary piece one that should become increasingly personal with years of wear.
