- The Freewheelers The Vanishing West Lot.601XX 1942 represents one of the earliest wartime models, positioned at the very beginning of the WWII era in the Vanishing West timeline. This period predates strict material regulations, meaning the jeans still retain the full specifications and details seen in pre-war models from 1937 to 1941, before simplification and omission became common.
The denim is Freewheelers’ original 14oz selvedge fabric, developed entirely from the yarn up. Thick yarns are used for the warp, while irregular, slubby yarns are applied to the weft. This construction creates a fabric with strong vertical fading potential, while giving the denim both toughness and excellent shape retention.
Compared to later models such as 1947 and 1951, the 1942 denim is dyed in a slightly deeper indigo tone, with more pronounced irregularity in the warp yarns. This results in a richer surface texture and stronger contrast as the jeans are worn, reflecting the character of early wartime denim.
