- The SJST-TW01 is Samurai Jeans’ new extra heavyweight T-shirt, developed to push their jersey series to an even heavier and more substantial level.
The fabric is made from No.10 yarn twisted into a double-ply yarn, creating an equivalent thickness close to No.5. Open-end yarn is used, giving the surface a naturally uneven texture and a dry hand feel. Although No.10 yarn is already considered very thick for jersey fabric, this model goes further by using it as a double yarn, resulting in a dense, slightly rough, and highly durable fabric with a strong presence.
The Green and Bordeaux colorways use a special dyeing technique known as “Tamamushi Dyeing” ( Iridescent Dyeing ), which creates a subtle color-shifting effect depending on the angle of the light. This effect is achieved by layering different pigments over one another, adding depth to the surface. Rather than a strong or glossy shine, it results in a deeper, more nuanced color with a soft, natural sheen.
Compared with Samurai’s standard T-shirt, the SJST-TW01 has a slightly wider fit, offering more comfort while maintaining a solid and structured feel. The fabric has enough weight to hold its shape well, making it suitable for those who prefer a T-shirt with a firm body and long-lasting durability.
- Tips
In Japan, T-shirt weight is often understood through yarn count rather than ounces. A lower number indicates a thicker yarn — for example, No.16 to No.20 is considered lightweight, while No.14 is already common for heavier T-shirts, including Samurai’s standard SJST series. By using No.10 double yarn, equivalent to around No.5, the SJST-TW01 goes far beyond a typical heavyweight T-shirt.
